Seed instructions

Each tree species has its own rules. Therefore, we regret not being able to provide standardized sowing instructions. Some species need stratification to germinate in spring – we have marked them in our assortment listing. We deliver them ready for sowing.

Harvesting - Processing - Storing

In Austria, we harvest most forest trees ourselves. Various harvesting techniques are used to ensure prudent handling of the forest promising best results. After the harvest, the seeds are appropriately cleaned, dried and mechanically extracted from the cones. We are constantly investing in new and modern technologies. The prepared seeds are then properly stored in special cooling rooms. The storage life of the seeds can vary depending on their species from one year, e.g. Norway maple to over ten years, e.g. spruce and larch, if stored correctly.

Stratification

Starting shot for perfect growth!

Seed stratification is the process whereby seed dormancy is broken in order to promote germination. As experts we can use a special treatment to ensure germination happens when you want it to. Many of our costumers take use of this service to save a considerable amount of time, effort and costs.

Direct seeding

Supporting mother nature!

Tree and bush seeds are successfully used not only to recultivate mine dumps and road embankments, but also to stabilize landslides and for reforestation purposes. Light-seeded pioneer tree species such as birch and white alder are particularly suitable for such areas. But also bush and soft wood seeds are suitable. When the area is consolidated, the desired tree species is reforested with bare-rooted plants.
